These 23 & 25 lb Salmon were caught in 450 to 500 fow.40 to 120 down, using Dipseys 180 to 220 just slightly west of the Oak. Most noticeable drop will be the Oak since the Canal flows are also throttling back. But in all likelihood the greater accumulations will be SW of here with the chance that the WNY Niagara Frontier may not get all that much. Upstate and Western New York Fishing Report - October 14, 2021 A big precipitation event that blows out the waterways with a resultant drop down to fishable conditions could be just what we need to kick off spring steelhead action. See you on the water! Even without any significant new precipitation, look for flows in the Oak to stay up thanks to strong swamp headwater supplies. New Yorks lakes and streams offer great opportunities for fishing in a wide array of settings across the state. Thru the past weekend we heard of guys getting steelhead hookups nearer the dam including a few good fish. Its fall and its leaf fall time so expect maybe daily water level fluctuations on the Oak thanks to hydro power operation. 1764 Oak Orchard Rd (Rte. The week ahead looks mostly clear with seasonal temps and then colder again toward the end of the week. Theres no obvious movement of fish around the Oak rivermouth either, although there has been a few Kings caught there by the casting foot soldiers. We had higher then average Fall water flows previously and theres good likelihood well have higher then average late Winter water flows in the near future or even thru the Spring. With the final weekend of the Lake Ontario Counties Fall Derby approaching, it is important to be in the contest if you are on the water. This Jan timeframe is historically a bit of an in-between time frame so any action is a bonus after the fall runs and before later winter/early spring steelhead. Other area smaller tribs have low to moderate flows possibly getting a little bit of stain from the most recent precipitation. The other area smaller tribs look mostly open again with mod to med flows and slightly stained water color. Rain has been slow and steady so look for smaller area trib flows to go high and dirty probably stopping short of blown. A little rise in flows and some stain to the water makes for a willing biter with this nearly 20 pound hen steelhead. Longer range forecast is chance of cold again after that with another snowstorm for end next week. Look for flows in the Oak to go from the slightly high flows we have now to med and 2 3 ft of visibility.
