Brother of Anne Wayles Pearson and Pvt. Sally Hemings was three-quarters white and a half-sister of Jefferson's late wife, Martha Wayles Skelton. Over seventy-five of her descendants lived and worked at Monticello as butlers, seamstresses, weavers, carpenters, blacksmiths, gardeners, and musicians.
