Locksmith
The Locksmith is an NPC at /spawn. They are located along the docks straight out of spawn.
The Locksmith trades money for keys which let you check or remove expired locks!
How are Locksmith keys used?
Locksmith keys can be used on player-locked containers or doors in the wilderness to unlock them. Punching a player locked chest with a Locksmith key attempts to consume the key and unlock the chest.
Note that Locksmith keys do not work within towns, even if it’s your own town, and you can’t use Locksmith keys on your own locks either.
What keys does the Locksmith sell?
The Locksmith sells Lock Checkers, Rusty Keys, Iron Keys, and Gold Keys.
Lock Checkers are used to show you how long it has been since a lock was last accessed, so that you know the most efficient tier of key to use to unlock it, or how long until you can use one.
Rusty Keys remove locks that haven’t been accessed for 4 or more weeks.
Iron Keys remove locks that haven’t been accessed for 3 or more weeks.
Gold Keys remove locks that haven’t been accessed for 2 or more weeks.

Note that once a lock is removed with a Locksmith key, a new lock can be put on by anyone!
