Mob Limits
What are mob limits?
Mob limits are restictions on the amount of mobs that can be in a set area.
On Towny they are as follows:
- No more than 16 of a specific mob in an 8 block radius
- No more than 64 mobs total (passive and hostile) in a 16 block radius
How do mob limits work?
Mob limits work by checking all mobs to see if any exceed the limit in their set radius. It tries to draw a circle around a mob with the radius of each limit and if there are too many mobs in that circle some are removed.
In the following image there are 3 groups of mobs that exceed their set limits, shown by the 3 different colored areas:
Mob Limit F.A.Q:
Why are mobs limited?
Mob limits are in place to help prevent lag on the server. Too many mobs in one area can cause severe server issues.
Do the mobs limits line up with chunk borders?
No, its a set radius around the mobs and will check even across chunk borders.
Can I stack mobs vertically if they are far enough apart?
No, the radius is horizontal only and will remove mobs stacked on top of each other no mattter how far apart they are vertically.
How do I know which mobs will be deleted if there are too many?
The following criteria determine which mobs are considered the most important to keep, in order:
- Tamed mobs
- Mobs with a saddle
- Mobs with a nametag
- Newer mobs (babies are “newer” than adults)
For example, tamed mobs will always have priority over untamed mobs (regardless of other criteria), so untamed mobs will be removed first. If two mobs are both tamed or both untamed, the one with a saddle will have priority over the one without it, and so on.
